Food & Wine Pairing -Quick Reference

Any time you’re planning on cooking with wine or pairing it with your favorite foods -it is always nice to know which wines go best with certain foods.  This is entirely optional, because it seems that when someone has a certain wine they gravitate to -they diss any guidelines or rules that exist.  We will start with the wine, then meats it pairs best with and other food options:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon         -Beef, Lamb or Chicken.            Other foods: Brie cheese, chocolates
  • Chardonnay                      -Chicken or Seafood.                 Other foods:  Cheddar cheese
  • Merlot                                -Beef, Lamb or Chops.              Other foods:  Mild Cheddar, Pasta/White sauce
  • Pinot Noir                          -Shellfish or Pasta                     Other foods:  Parmesan/Romano Cheese
  • Pinot Grigio                       -Turkey or Pork                          Other foods:  Fresh fruit, Mild cheeses
  • Zinfandel                           -BBQ, Steak & Spicy Wings      Other foods: Mild Curry, Rissoto
  • Sryah/Shiraz                     -Peppered Meats, Sausage       Other foods:  Pasta/Red sauce, Cheddar Cheese
  • Riesling                             -Poutry, Fish, Chocolate            Other foods: Cheesecake, Tarts, Mozzarella Cheese
  • Fume/Sauvignon Blanc     -Salmon, Halibut, Oysters         Other foods:  Asian Foods, Pasta/White Sauce
