Did you say dessert?  When you’re feeling very indulgent, this wonderful dessert will satisfy your cravings.  Made with only six ingredients, this rich and creamy dessert is perfect.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons light brown sugar

How to make it:

  1. Heat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. In medium saucepan over medium heat, bring cream and salt to a boil. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. In large bowl, stir together egg yolks and sugar until blended.  Very slowly, stir hot cream into egg mixture and add vanilla.
  4. Place six 1/2 cup custard cups or ramekins in a large roasting pan.  Evenly divide custard among the cups (they should be very full).
  5. Place roasting pan in oven and pour enough very hot water to reach slightly more than halfway up the sides of the cups.  Cover cups loosely with a piece of foil.
  6. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes, until custard is set but moves a little when gently shaken.
  7. Carefully remove cups from water bath and cool to room temperature. Chill I refrigerator until cold, about 3 hours. (Custard can be prepared to this point up to 2 days ahead.)
  8. Heat broiler. Sprinkle about 2 teaspoons sifted brown sugar over the surface of each custard.  Use an offset spatula or teaspoon to gently  spread sugar in an even layer.
  9. Place custards on broiler pan and broil 3 inches from heat source for 30 seconds to 1 minute.  Be careful not to leave too long.  Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 4 hours.

Yields 6 servings.
